The Municipality of West Elgin manages a number of municipal water and wastewater systems within the Municipality.

The municipal water and wastewater services are provided by the following systems: " West Elgin Primary Water System, " West Elgin Secondary Water System, " Rodney Sewage System, and " West Lorne Sewage System. The West Elgin Primary Water System provides water to other municipalities, along with West Elgin, under the direction of the Tri-County Management Committee (Tri-County). The Municipality of West Elgin is solely responsible for the other previously mentioned municipal water and wastewater facilities, which include West Elgin Secondary Water System, Rodney Sewage System, and West Lorne Sewage System.

The West Elgin Secondary Water System

The West Elgin Secondary Water System consists of the Rodney elevated water tank and a water distribution system.

West Elgin Secondary Water System purchases its water from the West Elgin Primary Water System, which is managed by the Tri-County Management Committee.

West Elgin Secondary Water System is essentially the water distribution system within the municipality, which services the two urban centers of Rodney and West Lorne and includes an extensive rural servicing system.

There are a number of initiatives relating to the secondary water system currently underway, including continually expanding the secondary water distribution systems to service an increasing portion of their rural residents. The expanded secondary water systems will increase the amount of water purchased from the West Elgin Primary Water System. The Management Plan will integrate the proposed changes to the distribution system, as well as other future capital expansions or upgrades that are either currently planned or that may be needed during the term of the plan.

The population of West Elgin currently is approximately 5,450, but the secondary water distribution system currently has only 1,666 customers, servicing approximately 3,400 residents (62% connected). It is anticipated that by the end of the 20 year term of this plan, most if not all residents will be connected to the municipal distribution system.

Rodney Sewage System

The Rodney Sewage System is one of two (2) sewage treatment systems in West Elgin. The Rodney Sewage System serves the community of Rodney and consists of a collection system, pumping stations, and a sewage treatment plant with lagoons.

The Management Plan will integrate the anticipated initiatives, proposed changes, and potential future expansions or upgrades that are either currently planned or that may be required during the term of the plan.

West Lorne Sewage System

The other sewage treatment system in West Elgin is the West Lorne Sewage System. The West Lorne Sewage System and the Rodney Sewage System are similar, since both facilities consist of a collection system, pumping stations, and a sewage treatment plant with lagoons.

The West Lorne Sewage System services the residents of West Lorne. All of the foreseeable initiatives, proposed changes, and potential future expansions or upgrades will be integrated into the Management Plan.
